Sensational Poll Predicts 16 Seats For Alba
Sorry (but not sorry) for the clickbait headline, but it is no more sensationalist than the Couriers headline for its article about this poll predicting the demise of Alba just 3 days after it was launched.
One of the interesting things I noticed in the poll was the 17% of respondents who thought Alex Salmond was an asset to the independence movement which seemed at odds with the 3% who would vote for Alba.
It has already been pointed out that some of those could in fact be unionists who fear Alex Salmond, some of them could be SNP voters who wouldn't dream of voting for Alba on the list.
But I thought, why not be an optimist for a change and assume these are all potential Alba voters and at the very least we would get an idea of what the upper limit of Alba seats would be in each region according to this poll's results.
So here are the results for the list votes only, it assumes 17% of votes for Alba but with no corresponding reduction in any other party's votes, so the results very much favour all the other parties.
I'd draw your attention to a few facts.
1. The SNP would only lose 2 seats, compared to 16 gains for Alba.
2. Unionist parties would lose 11 seats.
3. The number of indy MSPs would increase in all regions.
