This one is for anyone or anyone you know who is voting SNP 1 & 2.
I break it down for each region who you will let in by not voting Alba on the list (2nd) vote.
Basically, the way it works is the more votes Alba gets the fewer of the following unionists will become MSPs.
I've ordered them according to the order in which each unionist would lose their seat as the Alba vote rises.
If that doesn't make you consider Alba, I don't know what will.
Central Scotland
Monique McAdams (Lab)
Meghan Gallacher (Con)
Mark Griffin (Lab)
Monica Lennon (Lab)
Clearly, Monica Lennon is probably the best known on this list given her recent run for the leadership of Scottish Labour, and this would be a significant scalp and is possible if SNP voters really get behind Alba.
Glasgow
Paul Sweeney (Lab)
Annie Wells (Con)
Anas Sarwar (Lab)
Pauline McNeill (Lab)
Some good scalps in this list. Obviously, Annie Wells & Anas Sarwar are the two most well-known, and a concerted effort could see the current Labour leader without a seat in the Scottish Parliament.
Paul Sweeny is also of interest, seen as a rising start in UK Labour at one point. He subsequently lost the Westminster seat to the SNP and you might remember him as the ex-MP who despite being on an £80k salary as an MP, made a claim for Universal Credit and compared the loss of his Westminster seat, rather melodramatically, to a "public execution".
Highlands and Islands
Donald Cameron (Con)
Edward Mountain (Con)
Rhoda Grant (Lab)
Douglas Ross (Con)
Yes, if every SNP voter switched their list vote to Alba we could indeed see not only the current Scottish Labour leader without a seat at Holyrood but also the current Scottish Tory leader excluded.
Lothian
Susan Webber (Con)
Daniel Johnson (Lab)
Miles Briggs (Con)
Pretty much nonentities.
Although Miles Briggs may be known by some for being cleared by his own party’s disciplinary committee over a sexual harassment claim made against him, in response to which he stated “I am especially grateful to the SNP parliamentary researchers who were among those who supported my case.”
The woman who made the accusation did not attend the hearing and called the 2-hour hearing a foregone conclusion.
Miles, who is the Scottish Tories Chief Whip more recently claimed the SNP “tried to shut down scrutiny and sweep scandals under the carpet too often throughout the Alex Salmond affair."
The Greens would lose Alison Johnstone if all SNP voters switched to Alba on the list. She was replaced by Andy Wightman on the recent infamous Holyrood committee.
But it would result in a net gain of 3 Indy MSPs.
Mid Scotland and Fife
Alex Rowley (Lab)
Liz Smith (Con)
Claire Baker (Lab)
Murdo Fraser (Con)
The biggest scalp would of course be Murdo Fraser who's been an MSP since 2001 and a past deputy leader of the party despite never winning a single election in his life.
North East Scotland
Douglas Lumsden (Con)
Alexander Burnett (Con)
Michael Marra (Lab)
Liam Kerr (Con)
More nonentities that the Scottish Parliament wouldn't miss.
Liam Kerr was briefly deputy leader of the Scottish Tories.
South Scotland
Oliver Mundell (Con)
Colin Smyth (Lab)
So we could remove a Mundell, even if it's just the mini-me Mundell.
If Alba took 4 list seats in this region, 2 SNP list candidates would also lose their seats (Emma Harper and Joan McAlpine) but we would be 2 Indy MSPs up on the last election.
Emma Harper and Joan McAlpine may be best known by some for their work on Trans rights, both being involved in organising events to mark the International Trans Day of Remembrance.
West Scotland
Neil Bibby (Lab)
Russell Findlay (Con)
Jackie Baillie (Lab)
Jackson Carlaw (Con)
Jackie Baillie & Jackson Carlaw, what a nice couple they would make. Well, a nice couple to get rid of I mean.
Jackson Carlaw was, of course, kicked out for Douglas Ross, but now looks competent by comparison and Jackie Baille is the substitute leader nearly every time Scottish Labour lose another saviour.
